A Hidden Geode

 A hidden Geode

Quote: On space and context“ Instillation art still separates the work from the world, and aesthetic experience from the everyday experience… artwork depends on the viewers perspective and context of the work- visible as well as invisible….”Anne Ring Petersen, Installation Art page 41-45.

From left to right:

  1. Haha! I tricked you, this first one is actually not a rock, it's claystone! A “rock” primarily composed of clay particles.  Feel free to take it out and draw on the cement with it, it’s just like a piece of chalk!

  1. Sea Coal. Decades of coastal mining that has been eroded into the ocean. If you give it a poke you can feel how light it is, very different than typical coal. It’s even sporting a light shiny quality.

  1. (Directly behind sea coal.) A rock all the way from Michigan. My Mackinac island rock. (Well folks it is not a quarts. I broke it which you can see,  by throwing it on another rock right there on the island. I kept both halves, and it is a jagged sharp rock, but I let poke into my leg in pocket, as biked around for the next five hours. And now I have a little treasure to remind me of the trip. Best souvenir I ever earned. Totally worth it.

  1. (Next to Mackinac) is what I call my manatee rock. A few years back  went to florida and was able to swim with them I saw several up close . There backs where cut up by boat blades, just like this. Yet nature persists. Link

  1. (In front of the manatees) Sedimentary rock is such a boring name . This is lake super native, full of quartz, clay, and algae.

  1. (In front of that) Wild agate. Proud to say I found this one, I love the quartz bit in   the middle, (lean in to see the bands.)

  1. Rainbow colored river rocks. Any great lake I visit I search for a collection of the rainbow to take home with me.

  1. This next one is literally camouflage. But it's so much more than just something like foliage , it told me to tell you  I am a rock (link)

  1. Behind the rock, is a giant quartz I found on the top of a canyon in South Dakota this spring, there were huge piles of random rocks, and I brought this one home with me.

  1. The big boy. I really like the banding and the mix of colors, I found in the water and the lines and colors where just so striking I couldn't resist, so now behold big boys' beauty.

  1. In front of him, a rock that legitimately looks fake. Or is it?

  1. Small Bubble gum agate, this one was from a rock shop, boring I know.  But who doesn't like a fun name and a fun new rock?

  2. If you’ve made it this far your looking at the rock on the far right. link

Stop and notice the nature all around you, you may find beauty in the other hidden geodes of life.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out a part of my collection!
