Yoko Ono (A overview)

"Shift the attention from product to process, from the creative object to the act of creation." This quote is from Installation Art: Between Image and Stage by Anne Ring Petersen  and essentially what Yoko Ono's work aims to do.

Yoko Ono's a Japanese-American performance artist (visual artist, film maker, and makes experimental music) who pushes the bounds of what is installation art.

She's Part of the international Fluxus art movement (Primarily between 60s, and 70's)

(An avant garde artist, her works are considered widely "peace" focused. Which many believe is an important focus in the world today.)Yoko Ono's instillations focus it to get people to interact and contemplate the piece rather than just experience it visually.

A few examples very popular cut piece, fly, bag piece.

These are all great examples of feminism in art. And 1, and 3 pictures are still preformed today. Perhaps even more relevant, as the audience participates, they become a part of the art, and contribute in the end. If she made new pieces today it makes me curious if she would involve technology as part of work or not.

Commentary on bag peice : This piece is performed by

the actor, Ono in this case, going into the bag and sitting there, sometimes with movement.

Why its relevant: "Nothing to do with race, nothing to do with sex, nothing to do with age actually... Just the spirit,

or soul, so you can talk soul to soul..." -Yoko Ono

(More of a viewing and a thinker.) Challenges ideas of what is art.
